Overseas Excellent Youth Projects in 2026

一、 Project Introduction

The Excellent Youth Science Foundation Project (Overseas) aims to attract and encourage outstanding young scholars (including non Chinese foreign talents) who have achieved good results in natural sciences, engineering technology and other fields to return to China for work, independently choose research directions to carry out innovative research, promote the rapid growth of young scientific and technological talents, cultivate a group of outstanding academic backbones who are expected to enter the forefront of world science and technology, and contribute to the construction of a strong scientific and technological country.

二、 Applicant Requirements

The following conditions refer to the 2025 application guidelines, and the final guidelines released in 2026 shall prevail.

1.Applicants for the Excellent Youth Science Foundation Project (Overseas) should meet the following conditions:

(1)Adhere to the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China, possess good scientific ethics, and consciously practice the spirit of scientists in the new era;

(2)Born on or after January 1, 1986;

(3)Having a doctoral degree;

(4)The main research directions are natural sciences, engineering technology, etc;

(5)After obtaining a doctoral degree until the deadline for application in 2026, one should generally hold a formal teaching or research position in a well-known overseas university, research institution, or enterprise research and development institution, and have at least 36 consecutive months of work experience; For those who have obtained a doctoral degree overseas and have particularly outstanding performance, the work experience requirements may be appropriately relaxed (not applicable to obtaining an overseas doctoral degree through Sino foreign joint training). During overseas work, if an applicant holds a domestic paid position, their work experience in the domestic paid position will not be counted towards their overseas work experience;

(6)Obtain scientific research or technological achievements recognized by peer experts, and have the potential to become academic leaders or outstanding talents in the field;

(7)The applicant has not yet returned to China for full-time work, or will return to China for work after January 1, 2025. After receiving funding notification, one must resign from overseas work and work full-time in China for no less than 3 years.

2.Limitation requirements

Implement the relevant requirements for coordinating and connecting the national science and technology talent plan. The national science and technology talent plan at the same level can only undertake one project and cannot be applied for at different levels.

Tianjin University, abbreviated as Tianjin University, formerly known as Beiyang University, was founded on October 2, 1895.
