Introduction
The development history of cybersecurity-related disciplines at Tianjin University can be traced back to the establishment of the Analytical Statistics System major in 1958. In 2011, the National Security College of Tianjin University was founded; in 2015, the Interdisciplinary Platform for Cybersecurity was set up; and in 2017, the College of Cybersecurity was established. In February 2024, Tianjin University was successfully selected into the new phase of the "First-Class Cybersecurity College Construction Demonstration Project" (with 16 national units in total) jointly launched by the Cyberspace Administration of China and the Ministry of Education.
Adhering to the development feature of "Cybersecurity + Critical Infrastructure", the College of Cybersecurity of Tianjin University takes "Cybersecurity +" as an engine to drive the leapfrog development of Tianjin University's advantageous disciplines in areas such as water conservancy engineering networks, marine observation networks, and smart grids. Through interdisciplinary integration with the advantageous disciplines of Tianjin University, the College of Cybersecurity is fully building a new engineering talent training system characterized by "interdisciplinary integration and practical guidance", creating a promotable social service system featuring "continuous optimization and demonstration leadership", and constructing a cross-field interdisciplinary scientific and technological innovation system guided by "strategic orientation and demand-driven".
Tianjin University has provided sufficient physical space for the development of the College of Cybersecurity, including professional classrooms, experimental teaching venues, innovation and entrepreneurship teaching bases of the college, as well as Tiankai Science and Technology Innovation Park. The total construction area reaches 20,000 square meters. The College of Cybersecurity of Tianjin University has completed the construction of a first-class domestic virtual simulation experimental teaching platform that integrates four functions—teaching experiments, project training, competition practice, and innovation and entrepreneurship—and supports interdisciplinary sharing. This platform includes three sub-platforms: "Tiansuan (Sky Calculation)", "Tianqing (Sky Engine)", and "Tianxi (Sky Learning)", which can support 400 people for online training at the same time. Currently, the college is building 4 shooting ranges, including an integrated cybersecurity attack and defense shooting range and a critical information infrastructure cybersecurity shooting range, which can support 800 people for online training simultaneously. In July 2024, the college was approved for the "Major Scientific Research Facility for Cybersecurity of Critical Information Infrastructure" construction project by the Ministry of Education (with a fund of 120 million yuan and a construction period of 2 years). This project focuses on solving the R&D of "chokepoint" technologies in the cybersecurity of critical information infrastructure, the evaluation of critical information infrastructure, and providing strong support for the cultivation of practical cybersecurity talents.
The College of Cybersecurity of Tianjin University attaches great importance to the integrated development of industry, university, and research. It has taken the lead in or participated in the approval of 4 national-level laboratories and 8 provincial and ministerial-level laboratories, and has undertaken dozens of major and key projects such as national key R&D programs and major special projects of ministries and commissions. Guided by cultivating a talent team with strong practical capabilities, the college takes project-based courses and project-based graduation theses as important carriers, integrating the scientific research achievements of "government-industry-university-research" integration into the teaching process of professional courses. The college has hired more than 20 experts from units such as Qi'anxin, Tencent Xuanwu Laboratory, China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC), and China Electronic Technology Network Information Security Co., Ltd. as part-time teachers. It has also established long-term cooperative relationships with a number of leading cybersecurity enterprises, including Beijing Qi'anxin and Hangzhou Anheng Technology Co., Ltd., and jointly established university-enterprise laboratories in the field of cybersecurity.
The college actively promotes domestic teaching and training, and enhances its ability to cultivate talents with domestic resources. It has built 8 teaching and research platforms with domestic software and hardware, providing practical simulation teaching scenarios for more than 400 students majoring in cybersecurity, and assisting in the development of more than 10 professional courses, such as Comprehensive Cybersecurity Practice, Network Attack and Defense Practice, Wireless Network Security, Computer Security, and Software Security. The college encourages students to engage in innovation and entrepreneurship and devote themselves to the national cybersecurity cause. Students of the college have won more than 60 awards, including the national gold award in the National College Students "Internet +" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the national gold award in the "Challenge Cup" competition, and awards in domestic and international cybersecurity-related competitions. Over 40% of the graduates are employed in relevant units such as party and government organs, state-owned enterprises and institutions, and the military. The college also actively undertakes educational reform projects and has achieved fruitful results in education and teaching. It has obtained 7 national-level educational reform projects, including 2 second prizes of National Teaching Achievements in Higher Education and 2 special prizes of Tianjin Teaching Achievements.
